    Bernard H. Newton

    April 5, 1941 - April 1, 2022

Bernard “Bernie” H. Newton, 80, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2022. Born in Plattsburgh, NY he was the son of the late Frederick and Adelaide (Vincent) Newton. Bernie was a 1959 graduate of Dannemora High School and went on to continue his education at Union College in Schenectady, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He married his high school sweetheart Mary (Aubrey) Newton on August 10, 1963. Bernie worked for DuPont as an engineer for several years before working for General Electric in the RECO division. He was a dedicated employee from 1971 until his retirement in 2006. Bernie was proud to earn his Professional Engineer license in 1972. Bernie had a deep passion for the outdoors. He was an Adirondack 46er and loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed woodworking and was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Above all he cherished the time he was able to spend with his family especially being “PO” to his grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Mary Newton, his daughter Missy Hayes (Chris), son Sean Newton (Kate), grandchildren Ryan Hayes, Michael Hayes, Conor Newton and Matt Newton. Also surviving is his brother Jim Newton (Judy Cox) and sister-in-law Judy Roberts. Calling hours for Bernie will be held on Tuesday April 5, 2022, from 5-7pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday April 6, 2022, at 11am at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Road, Glenville. Interment will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Glenville.
