    Carol M. Thomson

    December 22, 1939 - May 3, 2022

Carol M. (Walther) Thomson passed away at St. Peter's Hospital on May 3, 2022, where she was surrounded by the love of her family. Born on December 22, 1939, she was the youngest child of Thomas "Syl" Walther and Mary Bentley Walther both of Cohoes. Carol was raised and educated in Cohoes and attended Cohoes High School. Prior to beginning her career with the City of Albany, Carol was a homemaker and devoted mother to her four children. She was the first supervisor of Albany Parking Violations Bureau and remained in that position for over 30 years, working directly for Mayors Erastus Corning, Thomas Whalen, and Jerry Jennings. She was a fixture at City Hall. Carol played an active role in her children and grandchildren's academic and athletic accomplishments. She was very involved at St. Teresa's of Avila School, National Little League as well as Albany Pop Warner, supporting her children in their schoolwork and sports activities. She also had a love for the N.Y. Yankees, especially Mariano Rivera and the N.Y. Jets. Carol had a lifelong love of music, her favorite being Johnny Mathis whom she was able to meet. Carol is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Joseph D. Thomson, as well as her four children, David (Amie) Thomson of Guilderland, Joseph Thomson of Schenectady, Lisa Thomson (Mark Klender) of Colonie and Susan (Jim) Maynard of Altamont. Her five grandchildren, Ryan (Amy) Thomson, Jordan Thomson (Mike Spiesbach), Shea Thomson, Ava Thomson and Ryleigh Maynard, all referred to her as "Meeka" and brought her immense joy throughout her life. She also had a great love for the Thomson and Maynard family dogs, Patches, Parker, Blake, Rosie and Schnitzel. Carol never missed an opportunity to watch her children or grandchildren's sporting activities. Whether it on a ballfield, stage, or TV, she was always a dedicated and active participant in their pursuits. They knew that "Meeka" was rooting for them! Carol was predeceased by her parents as well as her siblings, Robert Walther, Jeanne Whitney, Lois Broomhead, Jack Walther, and Anne Lenge. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Carol's family on Monday, May 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Dreis Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. Funeral services on Tuesday, May 10, at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Church, Westmere, where her funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will be held in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Glenmont, immediately following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
