    Gary Hack

    April 10, 1951 - December 28, 2021

    Gary B. Hack, 70 of Route 150, died on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Samaritan Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Charles E. Hack and Agnes Olbert Hack and husband for 48 years of Jerry L. Siler. He was raised in Averill Park and resided in West Sand Lake for 45 years. He was a graduate of Averill Park High School and Hudson Valley Community College before entering military service for the U.S. Navy. His active service lasted from 1971-1973 followed by three more years in the reserves, completed in 1976. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Gary was in R&D as an electrical engineering technician for Benet Labs at the Watervliet Arsenal for 34 years, retiring in 2005. He spent time with the zoning board in Sand Lake along with coaching his sons and others in youth sports. Throughout his life, he enjoyed spending time on the golf course and using his hands through construction and woodworking. He was an active communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Troy and director for its food pantry program for 10 years. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Shaine Hack of Queens, and Cory Hack along with his daughter-in-law, Dianna (DeeDee) of Hollis Center, Maine; a sister-in-law, Mary Hack; and nieces and nephews, Jeff, Brian and Colleen. He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles R. Hack and Richard F. Hack. Funeral services are private at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Gary B. Hack to St. Joseph's Church or St. Joseph's Food Pantry, 416 Third St., Troy, NY, 12180.
