Jean W. Fitzgerald

December 28, 1928 - June 15, 2022

Jean W. Fitzgerald, 93, entered Eternal Life Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Teresian House. Born in Albany, Jean was the beloved daughter of the late Eugene and Florence Durocher Welch. She was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament Grammar School and Vincentian Institute. Jean went on to earn her Bachelors’s and Master’s Degrees from The College of St. Rose. Jean loved music and played the piano in the student orchestras at VI and St. Rose. She was one of the first student secretaries at VI for Father Patrick Peyton’s Family Rosary Crusade. Jean taught at Mildred Elley Business School, and then several years in the Albany City School District. She also served as secretary to the Superintendent of the Albany City School District. She was active in her children’s activities and hobbies at their schools; St. Teresa of Avila, Mercy High School, and Albany Academy for Boys. She was a longtime communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Albany where she taught Religious Education for over 21 years, sang in the choir for over 40 years, and belonged to the Rosary Guild. Her beloved late husband, Bill Fitzgerald, was an ordained Deacon for the Albany Roman Catholic Diocese and Jean assisted Bill often in his ministry. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Jean's wonderful caregivers that assisted her at home, and then Teresian House. She was the beloved wife of the late Deacon William “Bill” Fitzgerald; cherished mother of Commander Joseph Fitzgerald, USN (Ret) (Eva) and Marion “Mimi” Baseel (Jeffrey). Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jean’s family on Monday, June 20, 2022 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206. Funeral services Tuesday at 10:30 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 607 Central Ave. (Father John Bradley Way) Albany, NY 12206 where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated.
