Joan M. DuPont

Joan May DuPont, 89 of East Greenbush, died on Monday, May 23, 2022, at Van Rensselaer Manor in Troy. She was born on May 21, 1933, to Edward and Ella Sedgwick in Albany. The oldest of four children, she married John "Jack" J. DuPont in 1955, and they enjoyed 59 years together before his death in 2015. Joan is survived by her seven children, John E. (Jill) DuPont, Joseph M. (Lonnie) DuPont, Catherine (Earl) Tretheway, James R. (Joann) DuPont, Robert F. DuPont, Anne-Marie J. DuPont and Daniel P. DuPont; four grandchildren, Matisse DuPont, Amelia J. DuPont, Colleen M. Tretheway and Meaghan E. Tretheway; two brothers, James A. Sedgwick and John E. Sedgwick; five sisters-in-law, Catherine M. DuPont, Mary R. Hobbins, Laura A. (John) Ruppel, Frances H. (Michael) DuWaldt, and Anne T. Miller; and two brothers-in-law, Robert E. DuPont, and Paul J. (Susan) DuPont. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack; her brother, Edward Sedgwick, and her parents. Joan enjoyed traveling, and took pride in her home. Most of all, Joan found profound joy in her children and grandchildren. The funeral service will be on Friday, May 27, at 12 p.m. in the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer. Relatives and friends are invited and may call prior to the service from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the W.F. Bruen Rescue Squad, 1116 Red Mill Rd., Rensselaer, NY, 12144.
