    Joan M. Sherwood

    July 30, 1942 - May 10, 2022

    Joan M. Sherwood, 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center after an extended illness. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Helen Gates Dolan. Joan was a graduate of Vincentian Institute and attended The College of Saint Rose. She had worked at the Desmond Americana Inn, the Albany Diocesan Cemeteries and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Joan was a longtime parishioner and volunteer at St. Clare's Church. She was instrumental with the coordination of the bereavement ministry at St. Clare's and helped guide many families through the challenges before them. Joan enjoyed painting, camping, her Irish heritage and writing poetry. Her greatest accomplishment was as a devoted mom and a welcoming friend to everyone. Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband, Wrenn; her daughter, Constance; her grandson, Brandon; and her niece, Connie Wood. She was the beloved mother of Michael (Patricia) Sherwood, Thomas Sherwood (Barbara Herz), Kristina (John) Rogers, Sandra (Jeannie) Sherwood. She was the dear sister of Kathie (Thomas) Campion. Joan was the cherished grandmother of Wrenn, Ken, Katrina, Brian, Jason, Lindsey and Aidan. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Joan's family on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Clare's Church, 1947 Central Ave., Colonie. Interment will be private in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Memorial contributions may be made in Joan's honor to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1000 Elmwood Ave., Suite 900, Rochester, NY, 14620.
