    Joan M. Stewart

    May 24, 1928 - January 30, 2022

    Joan M. Stewart passed away peacefully in the arms of her daughter, Cheryl Barr, on January 30, 2022. She was born on May 24, 1928 to the late Francis and Sophie (Jackowiak) Henry and was a lifelong resident of the city of Albany. Joan was a devoted mother to her only child, Cheryl, and her son-in-law, Vince Barr. She is the cherished grandmother of Jennifer (Cody) Foss, Vincent Barr and Giovanni Barr. She is the loving great-grandmother of Aiden, Ava, and Christian Foss. Joan is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marie Henry; nephew, Francis Henry; niece, Dawn (Tom) Gallagher and cousin, Edward Michael Cahill. In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her brother, Francis C. Henry. Joan proudly worked for the New York Telephone Company for the entirety of her professional career before retiring after more than 40 years of service. Joan loved going to the movies, reading every newspaper she could get her hands on, going to see the New York City Ballet at SPAC, ceramics, traveling and playing Boggle with her grandchildren. Joan was a Third Order Franciscan and a devout Roman Catholic. She will be remembered for her love of God and her family. In lieu of flowers, please perform an act of kindness for someone. Love one another as God has loved you. Funeral Services will be Friday, February 4, 2022 at Blessed Sacrament Church 607 Central Avenue, (Father John Bradley Way), Albany, NY 12206 at 9:00 am where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Masks are required. The Rite of Committal will take place immediately following the Mass in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie, NY.
