John "Jack" Egan

John J. "Jack" Egan, 79, peacefully passed into eternal life on Monday, December 20, 2021, at home. A lifelong area resident, he was the son of Agnes (Egan) Fournier and Albert Fournier. Raised in North Albany, Jack was proud of his Irish roots. He was blessed with a great singing voice and a wonderful sense of humor. Jack was generous with his time and talents and always put others first. After graduating from Cardinal McCloskey High School, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves, serving as a medical corpsman with the 364th General Hospital. He was employed by several paper companies before joining Key Bank as a senior buyer in the Purchasing Department. In retirement, Jack became a tutor for Literacy Volunteers, and offered his time and service to the Regional Food Bank and the Roarke Center in Troy. He was an associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. Residing at Shaker Pointe since 2011, he led monthly prayer services, called Bingo and had served on the Resident Council. A longtime active parishioner of over 55 years at St. Pius X Church, Jack served three terms as parish council president, was chair of Prayer and Worship for nearly thirty years, served in the Sacramental Preparation Programs for baptism, confirmation and marriage, and was a lector and eucharistic minister. Jack was an excellent cook and enjoyed traveling, especially to Ireland, England and Germany. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carole; his beloved children: daughter Kathy and her husband, Larry Witkowski, and son, Brian Egan; and his three treasured grandchildren, Brendan Carroll, Ashlynn Carroll and Evan Witkowski. He is also survived by his brothers, Jerry Fournier (Peggy), Jim Fournier (Dolores), and Bob Fournier (Cathy); his sister, Mary (Brian) Lord; his aunts, Ann and Joan Egan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, especially Jan Precopia, who was like a sister to him. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jack's family on Sunday, December 26, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany. Please only enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance. Masks are required for everyone. Funeral services on Monday, December 27, at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville. Please only enter the church from the front doorway; church ambassadors will be available to help with seating and questions. Masks are required for everyone; social distancing is also available on the two sides of the church. Please attempt to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the Mass. The Mass may be viewed at https://www.stpiusxloudonville.org/new-live-videos. The Rite of Committal will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 28, in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Please meet at the entrance to the cemetery to process together to Section 52 for the interment.
