    April 16, 1962 - May 28, 2022

    Mrs. Maria S. Alexaitis, 60, of Amsterdam, NY died peacefully on Saturday, May 28th, 2022 surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness. Born in Amsterdam, NY on April 16, 1962 she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Emily (Mele) Sorbero. A lifelong area resident, Maria was a 1980 graduate of Amsterdam High School. She then went on to attend and graduate from the State University of New York at Albany. For 38 years she was employed by the State of New York, and was the Manager of Information Technology Services at the time of her death. Maria was a parishioner of Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Sacandaga Boat Club for over 25 years. She always enjoyed a round of golf and loved to travel. Maria loved life and spending time with her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother and friend to many. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her children, Cara (Michael) Pelletier and Ryan (Emily Hidde) Alexaitis of Bethel, ME; her beloved grandchildren, Malia, Kyla, Savannah, and Tristan; her sister, Joanne (Richard) Wenke of Saratoga Springs, NY; two nieces, Emily Wenke and Sara Wenke; cousins and many friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, June 18th, 2022 at 11a.m. at Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam with The Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis V.F. as celebrant. Private inurnment will take place in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, June 17th, 2022 from 4 until 7p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home.
