December 14, 1930 - February 24, 2022
Mary L. Potenza, 91, a long-time resident of Troy, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born on December 14, in Albany, to her parents, the late Joseph and Rose Patane. She was a graduate of Phillips Schuyler High School. Mary spent the greater part of her career working for King's Youth Center, New York Telephone Company, and later followed by The New York State Tax and Finance Department. She was devoted to serving her community and had an undeniable impact. She spent most of her time volunteering at the Italian Community Center of Troy and was a faithful parishioner of St. Anthony's of Padua Church in Troy. If not volunteering, you could find Mary enjoying time socializing. From day outings with the Red Hat Society to Thursday Night Bocce League, Mary lived her life to the fullest. Above all else, spending time with family and those she loved was most important to Mary. She was the wife of the late Theodore J. Potenza of Troy. Teddy was her soulmate and the love of her life. Together, their children, were their great accomplishments. Mary's beautiful life will be forever cherished by her children. She is survived by Theodore (Denise) Potenza, Lynn (Nick) Gross, and John (Michele) Potenza. She was the loving grandmother and mentor of Nick (Brittney), Stephen, Angelica (Nick), Madeline, Nina, Jacey, Teddy, and Jada; and great-grandmother of four: Teegan, Denali, Nicholas, and Layla. Mary was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Patane, and survived by his children, Joseph and Donna. The funeral service for Mary will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Troy, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Richard J. Donovan OFM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call at the church on Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Interment, will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an organization very special to Mary. (501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.)
