    Michael T. Schmitt

    April 8, 1944 - May 2, 2022

    Reverend Michael T. Schmitt passed away peacefully on May 2, 2022 at Teresian House in Albany, New York. Father Schmitt was born on April 8 , 1944 in Yonkers, New York. Along with his parents Charles and Audrey, and his sister, Mary-Faith, Father Schmitt lived in Dumont, New Jersey, then New City, New York. He graduated from Don Bosco High School in Ramsey, New Jersey. He studied at Cathedral College in New York City, St. Joseph Seminary, Dunwoodie, Yonkers, NY, and then Our Lady of Angels Seminary. He was ordained for the Diocese of Albany by Bishop Edwin Broderick on May 22, 1971 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Albany, NY He served as Assistant Pastor of St. Helen’s in Schenectady, Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Amsterdam, with additional ministry at Fulton Montgomery Community College. He served as Assistant Pastor and Pastor of St. Clare’s in Colonie, retiring from St. Clare’s in 1993. In May, 1996, Father Schmitt celebrated his Silver Jubilee to the priesthood along with his 18 years as Pastor of St. Clare’s Parish in Colonie, New York. He is survived by his sister, Mary-Faith, from New City, New York. The Reception of Body will take place at 4:00 pm Wednesday, May 4, at St. Clare’s Church, Colonie, NY. Relatives, friends, Clergy, Religious and parishioners may visit with his family until 6:00 pm. Funeral services Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 10:00 am at St. Clare’s Church, Colonie, NY where his Funeral Mass with Rev. James Kane as celebrant and homilist will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will be held at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery immediately following the Mass.
