    Norman E. Whitaker Sr.

    September 4, 1926 - March 4, 2022

    Norman E. Whitaker, Sr., age 95, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2022. He was born in Albany, the son of the late Norman A. and Elizabeth Whitaker. Norman was predeceased by his sister Ruth Newth and her foster son Joe DeAngelis, his granddaughter Shannon Whitaker and his wife Clara Whitaker. He was a Marine Corp veteran, serving during World War II in the 2nd Division, 8th Regiment, 3rd Battalion, L Company. He received a Purple Heart for wounds sustained in battle and was a member of the USMC Boxing Team stationed in Hawaii. Norman was a retired Iron Worker for Local 12 in Albany, NY and also owned two structural steel businesses. He was a member of the Masonic Wadsworth Lodge 417 and the American Legion in Voorheesville, NY. He enjoyed fishing, boxing, MMA and spending time with his family. He is survived by his children: Clara DePaulo, Norman Whitaker Jr., Patricia Whitaker and Brian Whitaker Sr.; grandchildren: Kara Whitaker, Brian Whitaker Jr., Janel Cloutier and Megan Whitaker; great grandchildren: Emily Cloutier and David VanBuren. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours on Friday March 11, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205. A service will follow at 12 Noon at the funeral home. Interment with full military honors will follow the service at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Central Avenue, Colonie, NY.
