    William C. Casagrand

    August 1, 1944 - May 20, 2022

William “Bill” C. Casagrand, 77 of Scotia passed away Friday, May 20, 2022, at Ellis Hospital. Born in Glen Ridge, NJ, he was the son of the late Charles F. and Wanda M. (Waczkowski) Casagrand. Bill moved to the Scotia area at the age of five and attended local schools. He continued his education at the Fort Schuyler College, where he received his bachelor's degree in Engineering. After his schooling, he traveled the world as a Merchant Marine. Once he married, he left his days of world travel behind to raise a family and worked as a Nuclear Engineer for various places and most recent being Bechtel Plant Machinery. His hobbies included anything with tinkering or building. He used his skills to create his childhood home into one where he raised his family. Bill was also an avid reader, played chess on his lunch breaks with coworkers, and was an outdoorsman. Although he wasn’t a sports fan, he was always more than happy to help teach and coach his daughters in recreational sports. Bill was a quiet, humble, and giving family man. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Bill and his wife, Carol were longtime parishioners of Church of the Immaculate Conception in Glenville. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brothers, Robert Edward Casagrand, Charles “Bud” Casagrand and Edward Michael Casagrand and infant sister, Nancy Casagrand. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carol (Knack) Casagrand; Amy Heap, Sara (Tom) Vautrin, Kateri Casagrande and Debra (Joshua Jerome) Casagrande; grandchildren, Miguel Calderon, Matthew Vautrin, Nicholas Vautrin, Madalyn Niemiec and Jacoby Vautrin. Bill is also survived by a host of cousins. Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Rd, Glenville, NY 12302. Interment will immediately follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glenville.
