    William "Bill" G. Kelly

    January 24, 1941 - May 2, 2022

Son, husband, father and friend William G. Kelly died on May 2, 2022. Whether in the company of friends, family or someone he just met, Bill always had a story to share often tied into one of life's many lessons. Be rest assured that Bill is telling a story today surrounded by friends and family, and likely with a Guinness in hand. Son of James and Isabelle, brother to six, Bill brought love, life, laughter to Hamilton Street in Albany, NY. After attending Vincentian Institute, Bill graduated from Siena College in 1962 and served as a member of the U.S. Army National Guard. Bill was employed as a bank examiner for Key Bank prior to becoming an auditor for the NYS Department of Tax and Finance, retiring in 2002. During retirement, you could find Mr. K walking the halls of Guilderland High School monitoring and mentoring the student community. On July 3, 1965, Bill married the love of his life Ann Mary Glavin of South Main Avenue. Bill & Ann would soon move throughout New York building lasting friendships and their family. From St. James Place to Fresh Meadows and then Syracuse, the Kelly's eventually made Voorheesville their home where they raised their four children. Bill found joy watching his children grow, attending their numerous school activities and sporting events cheering from the sidelines. Annual camping trips throughout the northeast were highlighted by a broken-down car or a flooded campsite, watching McEnroe beat Borg at Wimbledon or having a child's toy confiscated by the FBI. And of course, the Annual Kelly Picnic! With Ann by his side, Dad's knack for adventure continued throughout retirement traveling to Ireland, Italy, France, Alaska, Bermuda and trips to Disney with the grandchildren. Bill's strong faith in God led him to volunteer his time and knowledge with special needs children and through the Residents Encounter Christ. Bill was also a trustee for the St. Matthews Parish and a member of the New Scotland Kiwanis and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Predeceased by his parents; brother James Kelly; sisters Bernadette (Grogan), Janet (Kerr), Missy (Carroll); sisters-in-law Patricia and Carolyn Kelly; brothers-in-law Charles Biggar & Edward Grogan, Thomas Glavin and Michael Glavin; niece Jennifer Campell and nephews William Carroll and Michael Grogan. Bill is survived by his wife Ann, daughter Kerry Laberge (Richard), and three sons Bill (Kim), Kevin (Jacy) and Jim (Katelyn). Bill was also a proud Papa to his grandchildren Madeline, Emma, Ryan, Will, Adrienne, Painter, Lucy and Rowan. Bill also leaves his sister Mary Patricia (Biggar) brother John, and brothers-in-law, William Carroll and William Kerr and sister- in- law, Marie Glavin, and many loving nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. The family would like to thank the rehabilitation team and Guadalupe staff at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center for their outstanding care of Dad during his stay. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bill's family Sunday, May 8, 2022 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206.
